Screen Time for Windows Browser Extension Privacy Policy

Screen Time for Windows is a local, administrator-managed screen-time application for Windows 11. Its browser extension measures focused website use and applies website limits configured by the household administrator. This policy describes the browser extension and its interaction with the companion application installed on the same computer.

Information handled

While an HTTP or HTTPS page is visible and focused, the extension reports the website hostname and the approximate number of seconds the page was focused. The companion Windows service associates the report with the currently signed-in Windows account by authenticating the local native-messaging process.

Detailed browsing history is off by default. If the household administrator explicitly enables it, the extension additionally reports the page title and a sanitized page address containing only the scheme, hostname, and path. Query strings and URL fragments are excluded by the extension and stripped again by the Windows data layer before storage.

Information not collected

The extension does not collect page body content, form entries, passwords, authentication tokens, personal messages, keystrokes, mouse position, scrolling, downloads, screenshots, financial or health information, precise location, advertising identifiers, or extension analytics.

Purpose and use

Information is used only to show website usage to the household administrator, report local connection and collection mode, and evaluate or enforce administrator-configured website limits. It is not sold, used for advertising, used to build advertising profiles, or transferred to data brokers or unrelated third parties.

Local processing and storage

The extension sends reports through Chromium native messaging to the Screen Time helper installed on the same PC. The helper relays them to the local ScreenTimeCentral Windows service. The product has no developer-operated cloud service, advertising service, or analytics endpoint, and browsing records are not transmitted to one.

Records are stored in a SQLite database under %ProgramData%\ScreenTime. The installer restricts direct filesystem access to Windows LocalSystem and members of the local Administrators group. An administrator who controls the computer can still access, copy, or delete local program data.

Retention and controls

The current application retains usage and optional detailed-history records indefinitely and guarantees at least 90 days of availability. It does not yet provide an in-product export or deletion screen.

The household administrator can stop future page-title and sanitized-path collection by turning off Detailed browsing history in the dashboard. Turning it off does not automatically delete earlier records. Removing or disabling the extension stops future browser reporting from that browser profile.

Permissions

The extension uses access to HTTP and HTTPS pages to determine the hostname and whether a page is visible and focused, and to read the page title and sanitized path only when detailed history is enabled. It uses nativeMessaging to communicate with the Screen Time application on the same computer. It does not use remote code.

Children and household use

Screen Time for Windows is intended to be installed and configured by the computer’s administrator for members of that household. No person creates an online account with the developer, and the developer does not receive children’s or other household members’ browsing records on a server.

Security and limitations

The local database is protected with Windows access controls, and the service authenticates the signed-in Windows account rather than trusting an identity supplied by the extension. A person with administrator control of the computer can access or change local records. If the local helper or service cannot be reached, normal browsing continues and activity or enforcement may be missed during the outage.

Changes and contact

Material changes to the information collected or its purpose will require an updated extension, store disclosure, and policy effective date. Public contact: r*****@gmail.com.
